For a Brazilian, I have some niche (Nish, hehe) tastes, they are: British comedy and Bollywood films. And even so, one of them has lead me to the other... In 2013, Thom Tuck did a show where he talked about movies that went straight to dvd, so he talked about Steven Seagal films, The Olsen twins films, faith films and Bollywood where he made very clear that these were very different from there rest of the other shows he had made... Because these films were not bad, they just hadn't had a proper release in the UK or the USA. Now, I was always curious about Bollywood films, so I decided to take Thom Tuck as my guide and I watched all the films he had mentioned on his show.
I was hooked.

Thom picked up a list of the 10 highest grossing films of that year. On the radio show, he mentioned 5: Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Om Shanti Om and Ghajini. They are all good films, and they were a pretty good starting point to the Bollywood world, DDLJ is probably THE biggest Bollywood film

My favourite film in that list is Om Shanti Om! It starts Shah Rukh Khan (out of the 5 films in that list, SRK is in 4 of them) and Deepika Padukone whom I just adore... The last 10 minutes of the 1st half (because all these movies have an intermission on them) are very sad but the film is a lot of fun!

Yes, Bollywood films are long (some of them are over 3 hours) and yes, the songs sometimes do pop-up out of nowhere, although that doesn't bother me, I love a musical. But I don't know, I really like them! I enjoy the unapologetic nature of "yeah, he punched the guy, the guy flew 10 feet and broke a brick wall. So?" and the moment I fell in love with Bollywood was when I watched the Dhoom trilogy. It's not, but let's say it's Bollywood's "Fast and Furious". The 2nd Dhoom film is partially set in Brazil, which made me shiver when I read about it... Then I watched it. One of the characters has a sister who lives in Brazil, so she can only speak English and Portuguese (NOT SPANISH! DID YOU HEAR THAT HOLLYWOOD TYPES???) She actually uses slang! She says "manero"! Her house has a "Monica's Gang" doll, similar to one I had when I was growing up. They even sing in Portuguese! So much more respect than Hollywood, bless. Also, look at Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai *faints*.

Last one, because this is already huge, is Don. Don stars... Shah Rukh Khan! It's a remake of a 70's film which starred Amitabh Bachchan, the most famous Bollywood actor EVER. It is directed by my favourite quintuple threat (and icon in this post) Farhan Akhtar. The original film was written by his father Javed Akthar, so it's nice to keep it in the family. Don is pretty damn fun, it was mostly shot in Malaysia (shout out to [personal profile] peiyen!) and has some beautiful aerial shots that prompt my sister to feel sick and say "I'm never visiting Pei...". =P

If you have read til the end of this, well done you! Thank you! And have you ever watched a Bollywood film? Were you ever interested in watching?
